APRIL is the Adaptations Public Research and Innovations Lab at the University of Toronto. Serving to predict and respond to the many social, economic and environmental problems we now face, we develop cutting-edge methodologies, technologies, and even ecologies in response to a rapidly-changing world.

APRIL does projects in three core areas:

  • Developing new systems to help scientists, policymakers and ordinary Canadians visualize and understand the numerous problems we face and the things we can do about them,
  • Designing and building innovative new technologies to improve quality of life, bring Canada to the forefront of research for the 21st Century, and respond to the social, environmental and economic problems faced as our world warms up and changes,
  • Setting out plans and strategies to help the whole of Canadian society cope and respond to the problems we face – whether on the level of the whole society, the locality, or even the individual family or homestead.
